Hapimag is a membership-based holiday apartment company with resorts across the world. Last month, I was asked to photograph their refurbished London building on Lancaster Gate - just a stone’s throw from Hyde Park - which, over 3 years, has been transformed into their new flagship property.
The 7-storey building was originally 3 victorian mansions which I just find amazing that houses of this scale and grandeur were built on mass for single (very wealthy!) families to occupy - some still are but most are divided up into apartments or used as hotels. I would love to be able to step back in time and experience this area when it was built, though chances are I wouldn’t have been so lucky to be invited in - I’d be more likely to be mucking out the horses in the Mews behind!
I had 14 different apartment types to photograph, the main lobby and reception, exteriors, and a small courtyard out the back - 70 images in total!. Fortunately (for me) this was during covid lockdown, which meant I had the building mostly to myself and, using a lean camera and lighting set-up, I managed to get this all done in 3 days.
