A wider than usual Victorian semi-detached property in Kew, London, was the location for this kitchen shoot, which features a stunning John Lewis of Hungerford design within its rear extension.

Ryan has perfectly captured the sense of space that this area offers as well as honing in on all the many beautiful details and design features such as the cabinetry, taps, lighting, appliances and storage.

The cabinetry is John Lewis of Hungerford’s Original Shaker range, which was colour matched to Farrow & Ball’s Hardwick White for the cabinets and a complementary Studio Green for the island. All of which are finished with Armac Martin burnished brass cup handles and knob pulls.

The brief from the owner was to create a kitchen that looked like a series of joinery rather than a traditional fitted kitchen. This meant it was aesthetically led – still practical but thanks to the scale of the space, there was room to put aesthetics first.

Taking centre stage is the statement marble splashback, which was seen as a worthwhile investment by the owners as this is their forever home. It blends seamlessly with the Neolith sintered stone worktops. Stain and scratch resistant, the material is durable and hardwearing.

When it came to the appliances, they were to be integrated and concealed from view, so Miele ovens are housed within the island, the dishwasher is fully integrated and the Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer is also concealed within the cabinetry.

To enhance the sense of space, there are no wall cabinets. Rebecca Nokes, head of design and creative studio manager at John Lewis of Hungerford’s Fulham showroom, worked collaboratively with the owners to create their dream design. A design which is very much centred on entertaining with its dedicated drinks area and plenty of seating for catching up with family and friends.

The drinks area includes a double-door freestanding cupboard complete with prep area and shelving inside. There is also an undercounter wine fridge on the island opposite for easy access.

Finishing touches are provided by an Abode ceramic sink with Quooker Flex boiling water tap and Quooker Cube for sparkling water, bar stools from Hay and herringbone flooring from Ecohardwood.

Along with the new kitchen, John Lewis of Hungerford has also designed the adjoining utility room which features stacked laundry appliances behind the door, a lovely Belfast sink with Perrin & Rowe taps and plenty of storage.

For Rebecca Nokes, the photography really does the scheme justice. “The photos are amazing,” she says. “I love working with Ryan – his work is always fantastic and I look forward to lots more projects together.”
